"Brazen"

Wow, how time flys by!

I've been busy being busy doing nothing much exciting.

I haven't been doing much knitting lately, but today I picked up the needles and made a drop stitch scarf.

I bought this hand spun wool called "Brazen" from Wooldancer at her stall at a local independent school open day last year.

I wasn't sure what to do with it. I love the greens, pinks, plums, reds to brown colours in the wool, and how there is little bits of gold thread spun into the wool that shimmer in the light.

I started the drop stitch scarf but I didn't have enough to make a long wide scarf. So, I unraveled it and started again. This time I cast on 8 stitches and knitted up a thin scarf that I can wrap around my neck a few times - it's more like a woolen neck lace I suppose?

I just have to be careful that Little Loopity Lou doesn't pull on it and choke me.

Little Piggy

I finally finished my second knitted toy from Toymaking with Children by Freya Jaffke. This pattern is so easy - just increasing and decreasing and then sewing it up.


I bought the wool at a local independent school's autumn fair. I love the mixture of pinks and oranges in the hand dyed wool. The pig knitted up bigger than I thought, which I liked.



You should have seen the sheer delight in little Loopity Lou's face when I gave it to him. Of course, he gave it a mandatory bite just to taste it (for quality assurance and yes, it did pass). He played with it for a few minutes and didn't even throw it away!


The only reason that it took me a week to knit it is that I have 3 other projects or ufos to finish - a mother's day Edgar scarf for my Mum, a Warrick scarf and a knitted Dinosaur for little Loopity Lou for his birthday (which is this Saturday - I can't see my self finishing it by then. Oh well, Christmas is only 7 months away).

Happy Mothers Day

It is Mothers Day today.

We went up to the Blackheath growers market to get some fresh fruit and vegies. I got some vegie seedlings - leeks, kale, lettuce and some herbs. I can never get there early enough for the duck sausages!

I bumped into a friend and her son. The kids were playing in the autumn leaves. We made a leaf mountain and buried each other. Even little Loopity Lou had a go (and a nibble on some of the leaves!).

Afterwards, we went to the Common Ground Cafe at Katoomba. I love the way it was decked out with wood, stone and rusted metal. The table tops are solid wood. The cafe has a beautiful fireplace giving it an olde world feel about it. The staff were friendly and a lot of love and attention to detail has gone into the building of the cafe - even on the floor there was beautifully hand painted flowers on the step.

A mural on one of the walls off the main street in Katomba shows the animal and bird life of the Blue Mountians.
