"Eggs"

I wanted to write a post earlier this week but there has been a bit of bad weather in the mountains. There were black-outs two nights in a row and last week I thought the computer was going to pack it in - it was loading up so slowly and being silly buggers.
So, I've been doing a bit of craft. I got inspired by The Magic Onions with her felted eggs. Katie, her brother and I made some of our own. Katie's brother wanted to make a chocolate egg so he chose different shades of brown wool. He got a bit bored after a while with the rubbing of the wool to get it to felt up. It landed in the dirt a few times as well so it got a bit of a rough texture to it. It was a warm day so it was nice to wet felt outside. Little Loopity Lou loved playing with the water and Lux flakes mixture. After a while the soapy water thickened to a goo - it was a nice gooey mess for little finger to play in.

I also got the needle felting needles out and made an Autumn doll but I feel the purple wool that I used is a little dark for a nature table doll. I'll try to think of how to brighten her up a little. For some reason the wool that I dyed turned out patchy but I do like the variations of the purple in the wool. I also had a go at making a needle felted pumpkin. For my first attempt, I'm happy with how it turned out. I would like to make some more for the nature table as these are the only pumpkins I'll be harvesting this season. The pumpkin vine out the back isn't producing pumpkins - they flower and get to a certain size (say about a ping pong ball size), turn yellow and then fall off the vine. I was disappointed. I was hoping to have lots of home grown pumpkins for autumn/winter this year.

Those eggs are lovely. And your doll has beautiful colours, I think.

She's goreous, Anne. How about an orange flower in her hair if you want to brighten it up. My favorite way of making flowers is to get a little tuft of roving. Roll it into a rough ball in your hands. put it on the felting board and stab it in the middle with our needle. Poke, poke, poke many times and then start drawing the outside fibers into the middle. Keep drawing in in a circular motion until, voila, a flower! Have you tried one this way? It's really pretty and when you peel it off the board, there is a lovely 'beard' at the back that is perfect for attaching.
Your pumpkin in so plump and curvy... I love it!
So excited I inspired you... thanks for telling me, it's made my day!

Oh, that autumn doll is just lovely! She's going to bring lots of warmth to an autumn nature table, I think. :) We've been felting lots of eggs as well. I posted about ours a while back. I think our Easter egg hunt will have lots of felted and crocheted eggs this year.

These are all wonderful creations. Gorgeous little eggs. I am soon to ry my hand at dry felting.I love those little felt acorns and collected a whole lot of pods for them on Saturday.

P.S. Thankyou for your kind words. What a terrible break in experience you had x.

I have only tried a little felting - and would love to try more, last time my kids needed a fair bit of encouragement to persevere.

Beautiful felt creations Anne. I really need to create with wool more, I girls love to do it, but my "creations" are usually pretty pathetic, the perfectionist in me doesn't deal with that well! ;)
