Little Piggy

I finally finished my second knitted toy from Toymaking with Children by Freya Jaffke. This pattern is so easy - just increasing and decreasing and then sewing it up.

I bought the wool at a local independent school's autumn fair. I love the mixture of pinks and oranges in the hand dyed wool. The pig knitted up bigger than I thought, which I liked.

You should have seen the sheer delight in little Loopity Lou's face when I gave it to him. Of course, he gave it a mandatory bite just to taste it (for quality assurance and yes, it did pass). He played with it for a few minutes and didn't even throw it away!

The only reason that it took me a week to knit it is that I have 3 other projects or ufos to finish - a mother's day Edgar scarf for my Mum, a Warrick scarf and a knitted Dinosaur for little Loopity Lou for his birthday (which is this Saturday - I can't see my self finishing it by then. Oh well, Christmas is only 7 months away).

Here are pictures of pigs having a mud bath by Katie (7) and my son who is 4 (the back squiggle down the botton is a mud crab having a mud bath with the pig!).

Happy Mothers Day

It is Mothers Day today.

We went up to the Blackheath growers market to get some fresh fruit and vegies. I got some vegie seedlings - leeks, kale, lettuce and some herbs. I can never get there early enough for the duck sausages!

I bumped into a friend and her son. The kids were playing in the autumn leaves. We made a leaf mountain and buried each other. Even little Loopity Lou had a go (and a nibble on some of the leaves!).

Me being a big kid making a leaf angel!

Afterwards, we went to the Common Ground Cafe at Katoomba. I love the way it was decked out with wood, stone and rusted metal. The table tops are solid wood. The cafe has a beautiful fireplace giving it an olde world feel about it. The staff were friendly and a lot of love and attention to detail has gone into the building of the cafe - even on the floor there was beautifully hand painted flowers on the step.

A mural on one of the walls off the main street in Katomba shows the animal and bird life of the Blue Mountians.

Happy Mothers Day to you all!

Felted Dolphin

I met up for a coffee with Mel from Sea Star Craft last week and she gave me some patterns for some felted toys.

I've been after a dolphin pattern for a little while now. In making the dolphin, I wet felted the top with greens and blues and used a plain grey felt for the underneith section.

The butterfly top was felted by me - the botton was felt I already had. I put a little bit of thick pipe cleaner in the middle section of the butterfly so a child can move it up and down.

The Sea-Horses where a finger puppet design. I just sewed them up and stuffed them.

Today in my oil burner, I'm burning a blend from Perfect Potion called AIR. It's a blend of fir, myrtle, lemon, spike lavender, maychang and lemon eucalyptus.

We have been fighting a cold here with all our sneezeing and coughing. I find this a beautiul blend to burn when I want to cleanse the air in my home.

Birds

Thank you for the world so sweet

Thank you for the food we eat

Thank you for the birds that sing

Thank you God for everything

G'day, I'm Warrick.

Yes.... another day, another funny named scarf I found on the wonderful world of Ravelry.

This scarf is called the "Two Weeknights With Warrick Worsted Wave Scarf" by Karin Bole. It's knitted in Noro, Silk Garden 264 No C. I've only just started it but hopefully I'll finish it sooner rather than later. I love the blend of the blues, green and pinks.

At the moment I'm burning a oil blend of Nutmeg , Bay Laurel and Sweet Orange in my oil burner. It's nice and spicey for a cold rainy day up here in the mountians.

Apple Picking at Bilpin

There's a little round house you've seen before
It has a small chimney this big and no more
It has neither window nor a door
But a star within

By Kim Billington

On Saturday we did a family Autumny thing!.....we went to Bilpin to pick some juicy apples.

It was rainy and a bit muddy but the kids loved it.

It was interesting to see apples of different shapes and sizes. Some of the apples had a bit of hail damage, so they where going cheap. We picked Pink Ladies & Granny Smiths.... the kids tended to get carried away in their excitement, picking just about anything they could get their hands on to try and fill their baskets!

We bought a few Kg's and I made some little apple pies...... (yum...)

Helloooo...... my name is Edgar!

AS to why my name is Edgar, I do not know - you have to ask knitty.com!

I love the fact I bought some wool a few months ago just by falling in love with the colour way, having no idea what I was going to do with it (this is before Ravelry). I could only afford 2 balls at the time thinking it would sit in my stash with the others - then I got my invite to Ravelry and a whole new world opened up to me!

Serendipity?
